ok, who are you? i've asked a bunch of friends here in Chicago but no one seems to recognize your name. yet, we must all have been to the same concerts, bought the same albums. i even asked the local british jazz photographer (doesn't every city have one?) and he drew a blank. what gives?
I left Chicago in 2000, but I get back from time to time to stop at Dusty Groove and Corbett vs. Dempsey. Jim and John would recognize me - the guy from Minnesota who drives 6 hours through snowstorms to see Roscoe Mitchell. And, back in the day, I bought many a fine album at Ray's Jazz Shop on Shaftesbury Ave...
Good call, C.L. I almost featured that one, as it's a favorite. BTW, I'm working on a journey now that made me think of you, as it's about the fusion of a Chicago blues harp player and AACM jazz musicians...

Hah, I just saw Corbett at Dusty. Ok, that’s hardcore. I thought I was nuts when I used to drive up to Madison to hear Roscoe with Clyde Stubblefield.
Thanks as always, Tyler. The Abrams album that I always return to is Lifea Blinec, a quintet studio recording from 1978 with Joseph Jarman.

Cool! Looking forward to it
Thank you for this. Wonderful piece. Can I bother you please for one edit. Can you change Pi Records to Pi Recordings.
Most humbly done. I can't believe I did that. I apologize for that fingernail on chalkboard moment. Thank you for pointing that out.
No worries. Happens often. Appreciate the piece and always love catching up with Muhal. Can’t wait for the Nessa post.
