Amen regarding Hank Jones. My go-to album is I Remember Paris https://youtu.be/AjxVgxy2ri8?si=X_K8RsbwWvtrsA0m

Same for Hoagy Carmichael - one of the greats.

Thanks for sending that, Louis. As I think of it now, when I met Hank that night and we were talking I asked him what were some of his favorite recordings. He replied, "Oh, I liked the Jazz at the Philharmonic sessions and Cannonball's Somethin' Else." I made a note of them and sometime later went to Tower Records in the Village and found the Blue Note classic. That's when I realized he was the real deal. I was just a few years into my jazz journey.

Hoagy did a very good job in To Have and Have Not. It’s always a treat to see a music legend in a film noir. Speaking of Oklahoma, I have lived 66 years in Oklahoma & Texas (4 yrs). Needless to say, I sure haven't met the jazz musicians that you have. Location, location, location, I guess. 🤘😎🤘

My moms' maiden name was Gillespie. Always wished I could be related to the late great Dizzy...

We here in the Detroit area love the Jones brothers. Elvin came home most often cuz he was touring with combos his entire life, so I saw and met him a number of times. Great story about Hank, sure wish I seen him in person.

I loved the information about Hoagie. I read Dick Sudhalter’s excellent book about him. What a great songwriter! A Hoosier from my neighboring state. Great clips that you posted, really capture the era.

Thanks!

I have not read Sudhalter's book, so that's a good call. Thanks for walking with us, RJ.
