Bix is really interesting because he is an early example of a learn-by-disc jazz player. He initially learned by imitating and then wearing out ODJB 78s before he made it up to Chicago.
I have listened to an album of his first recorded material titled "Bix Biederbecke & The Wolverines". It doesn't quite pop the way his more developed, later recorded songs were, but it is still quite good. It was one of the first historical-archive type compilation albums that I enjoyed listening to all the way through.
