Illuminating, as always. Thank you. I gotta check out that book. Here's a link to the 1st of a three part podcast with Adam Rudolph discussing his time with Yusef Lateef. I remember being struck by the fact that Lateef encouraged everybody in his band to write plays that they would perform. https://mitchgoldman.podbean.com/e/20190401-adam-rudolph-on-yusef-lateef-podcast-1-of-3/
If you aren't already tuning in to Mitch Goldman's Deep Focus podcast (I get it on Podbean) I highly recommend it. Goldman invites artists on the show to talk about other artists, and this leads to much more interesting conversations than if they were to talk about their own work. You get social, political, and practical and theoretical musical insights as well as some juicy personal anecdotes.
Congratulations to Northwoods for 50 years of creativity. And thanks for keeping Yusef Lateef's legacy alive. One of my all-time favorite tenor players.
I wish you could have seen it last night. It was a sight to see and hear. What an amazing group. So great to see young and old artists communing at such a high level.
